Project:
Support for the construction of second floor, "saraswathi sishu mandir," phool bagh, vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh!

Updates:

About the school:
This school was started in 2001-02 in Phool-Bagh with the intention of imparting education for the children of the underprivileged people of the society. It is located in  Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. The area where the school is located houses the largest housing colony for the Economically Weaker Section (" Aarthika balahina vargala gruha samudayam") in Andhra Pradesh. This housing colony was built during NTR's rule. Most of the occupants are artists and skilled workers like "burra kadhakulu", "harikadha dasulu" etc. Thus the parents of the students are either economically backward or illiterate or both: an ideal place to bring some change to the lives of the people by imparting education to their kids.

With this intent in mind, "saraswathi sishu mandir" was setup. Initially, it was operating from a rented house and was imparting education up to 5th std. The wages for teachers were around Rs/-500-1000 p.m. Very soon, with generous donations, the school got its own building (where it is currently located). In September 2004, it got accreditation form the DEO of Vizianagaram. This will enable the school to conduct classes' up to 7th std.(from the current 5th Std) and authorizes it to issue its own transfer certificate. This is a good sign and at the same time it is bound to bring more students. Hence the plan to construct another floor. Await more information!

Accomplishments:
The school has bagged several awards at district level and state level. Students participate in activities as diverse as music, sports and social welfare!

We believe that when it is a matter of quality, size does not matter.
