Music has always been my go to inspiration for creativity and self-healing. I love nothing more than to listen to new types of music and gain a better perspective of what is out there in the music world. For example, I recently toured around Europe for a bit last semester as part of a study abroad program. I knew this would be a great chance for me to listen to music from all over this country because on the weekends I could travel. My favorite country had to of been Germany and the city of Berlin! They had an amazing music scene that had everything from rap to opera. My friends went out one night to a couple of local discos in Berlin and each one had their own blend of tech house music that just seemed to radiate all night long. This was great music to dance to and really got you going!

There is something about baroque music that is akin to good wine, both seem to get better with age. The liveliness of baroque music, especially the music of baroque greats, like Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederick Handel and Antonio Vivaldi have produced Chirstmas music that gets better the more one hears them. I remember back in 1976 when I first started playing the drums. I was absolutely fascinated with it! In fact, I pretty much neglected many other things in school that I now look back and regret. I wish I would have stayed in baseball for one thing. I was a really good athlete and excelled as a catcher. I even had the privilege of playing in the all stars four years in a row!

I gave up baseball when I learned how to play drums. When I got home from school when all my friends were playing football in the backyard, I was on the drums playing along with my favorite songs. If I wasn’t playing along with my favorite songs, I was learning a new song.

My favorite music at the time was classic rock. Well, it wasn’t classic then, remember it was only in the late ’70’s. I’m talking Foreigner, Queen, CCR, Billy Joel, Kansas. I learned the drum tracks to many of those bands’ songs.

I won a pair of tickets to aclassical instrumental music concert in a magazine recently and although this is not something that I would enjoy myself I know that my folks would be really into the chance of going and seeing the orchestra and tenor that were putting it on. It is their wedding anniversary coming up so I am going to slip the tickets in the card as a little extra present for them. I have already bought them a huge canvas portrait of one of their wedding photos that I know they are going to love. It also gives them an excuse to get away from work and out of the house as the performance is down in London and they very rarely actually leave the exciting county that is Norfolk in the south east of England. If they don’t want to go or have other plans then I guess they can just stick them on eBay.
